How to Take a Screenshot on Mac
macOS has several built-in screenshot shortcuts, each suited to a slightly different situation.
Cmd + Shift + 3: Full screen
Captures everything on your screen and saves it directly to your desktop as a PNG file.
Cmd + Shift + 4: Select an area
Your cursor turns into a crosshair, letting you drag to select exactly the area you want. Release to capture just that selection.
Cmd + Shift + 4, then Space: Capture a window
After pressing Cmd + Shift + 4, tap the space bar to turn the cursor into a camera icon, then click on any open window to capture just that window with a clean edge.
Cmd + Shift + 5: Screenshot toolbar
Opens a toolbar with options for full screen, window, or selected area, plus screen recording. It also lets you set a timer and choose where files are saved.
For pages that scroll past one screen
Mac does not have a built-in way to capture an entire scrolling page in one shot outside of Safari's own tools. The reliable method for any app is to take several screenshots while scrolling, then combine them into a single image afterward.
